The term “public domain” is used to describe works that are not covered by copyright.

  • There are works Excluded from Copyright Protection, including Qatar government publications.
  • There are works that have Expired Copyrights. For most works, copyrights last for the remainder of the life of the author, plus 50 calendar years, but specialized rules apply to some other types of works.
  • The majority of the items in the Library’s Digital Repository are marked as public domain.
